The AMBI platform themes raised interest on “The importance of using Additive Manufacturing " Webinar
The AMBI platform was presented today on ”The importance of using Additive Manufacturing”. The event’s aim was to give an overview of AM and its future trends for both industry and academia. In particular, the target was to provide the latest examples in which AM contributes to sustainable production design alongside strategic business approaches.
Prof. Heidi Piili from the AMBI platform was one of the event’s keynote speakers. Her presentation provided a view of monitoring and simulation used in AM in the context of product design for additive manufacturing. These methods have strong potential in future trends of AM as they provide a tool for real sustainable and optimized production.
New information for the audience was that how important it is to do the right product design for the success of AM and how much it actually affects costs of fabrication largely. Piili also brought a strong point that life cycle costing (LCC) is also an essential element both in the product design of AM and in the economic efficiency of this technology. When the simulation is used for this design procedure combined with on-line data gathering from fabrication, defects can be easily be avoided.
”The importance of using Additive Manufacturing ” Webinar was organized in co-operation with Sandbacka Science Park, KK-Stiftelsen, and Högskolan i Gävle.
